Federico Cordero

Federico Cordero, concert guitarist, composer and educator, was a child prodigy when he began studying the guitar at age eight in his native Puerto Rico. He continued his classical guitar studies in Spain under the tutelage of Maestro Miguel Rubio, a distinguished disciple of Andrés Segovia. He also studied flamenco guitar with Andalusia’s foremost virtuoso: the late Manuel Cano.

Besides performing in Puerto Rico on a regular basis, he has played concerts in Argentina, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Aruba and St. Croix. He has also performed in various cities in the USA, including Cleveland, Atlanta, Lorain, Boca Ratón, St. Louis, the Oberlin Conservatory, Temple U. (Phila.), Greenville College (Ill.), and the Guitar Foundation of America festivals held at the Univ. of Akron (1988) and the Buffalo Campus of SUNY (1993). He has served on the Board of Directors of the Pablo Casals Music Festival, and the Guitar Foundation of America.

He is a former professor of Law and Economics at the University of Puerto Rico, and a former member of the House of Representatives of Puerto Rico. Graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico Law School, he also has a Masters Degree in Economics from Columbia University and Doctorate in Law from Yale.

Federico is included in the list of musicians endorsed by the Puerto Rican Institute of Culture.
